Young Adults
Being a young adult is one of the most difficult times in life. Teenagers and young adults are expected to make decisions that will alter and affect the remainder of their lives. Decisions such as whether or not to go to college, what career path to take, what kind of person they are going to be, whether or not to follow their dreams, etc. That’s why My Family Counselor is proud to offer young adult Christian therapy virtually and in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina and surrounding areas.
Young Adults
Everyone needs a safe place to give voice to their feelings, develop tools to resolve conflict, and navigate relationships with a wide variety of people. With all the conflicting noise surrounding us all, young people need a place where they can share their hearts and discover for themselves who they are and what they believe.
Melanie’s Experience
For as long as Melanie can remember, people have come to her when they needed a listening ear. Over the years, she has had many interests but they all had one thing in common; helping people to live a full, authentic life.
Never is this more the case than when she interacts with young adults.
She spent over a decade of her life with college students while pursuing her degrees and learned so much about their fears, challenges, disappointments, and dreams.
If you are a young adult, she would consider it an honor to be invited into your story.

Frequently Asked Questions for Young Adults:
How do you help clients grow and change through counseling?
Sometimes the challenges and pressures of life just seem like too much to bear. Most of us, however, keep ourselves so busy that we fail to avail ourselves of God’s help. Then, as pressures mount, our fears, hurts and insecurities can seek to overtake us. I have seen this so often in my life and the lives of my clients.
What is most damaging is that unresolved pain and disillusionment then clouds our perception of who God is and what Jesus has already accomplished for us. Please believe me when I tell you that there is hope. Through the power of the Holy Spirit and a personalized evidence-based treatment plan, change is possible.
As your counselor, some of the things we will do together:
- Create a safe space to work through worries and concerns
- Help you name and reorient life around your values and priorities
- Help you work through past hurts and replace cognitive distortions with God’s truth
- Equip and empower you to make the changes you desire
- Help you to create a rhyme of rest and margin in your life (unforced rhythms of grace)
How does your faith impact your view and practice of counseling?
First, every client gets to decide what they want to take place during their counseling session. During the intake process, I invite clients to share how they feel about using prayer and the application of Scripture during their sessions.
My own story of healing and hope is centered in my personal relationship with Jesus. I rely heavily on the guidance of the Holy Spirit before, during and after sessions. Just like Jesus, I believe each person must make their own decision regarding how involved God will be in their lives. I seek to share the hope within me when invited to do so by my clients.
